If you’re looking for a board game that can keep both young kids and adults entertained for an hour and won’t break the bank, Return of the Headless Horseman could be just the thing. Perfect for the spooky season, up to four players can work together to help Ichabod escape the Headless Horseman as quickly as they can.
Set up takes seconds – simply shuffle and hand out cards, place Ichabod and the Headless Horseman on the board, assemble the spinning tree and place the scare tiles face down beside the board. Now it’s time for each player to pick a card from their hand and play it face down. Everyone reveals their card at once, and the aim is to have a number match. If you succeed, move Ichabod the number of spaces represented by the match. Otherwise everyone must play an additional card.
The catch is that the more cards played the more spaces the Headless Horseman can move, and if he catches Ichabod you’ll need to turn over a scare tile. If all four pumpkin scare tiles are revealed, the Headless Horsman wins and the players lose the game.
The aim is to get to the opposite side of the board before this happens, but it’s harder than it sounds! There are additional gameplay elements including the spinning tree and various types of spaces Ichabod can land on, too.
This game is unlikely to suit all-adult groups of players, as the simplicity of it is definitely more appealing for a family group with children under 12, but it is fun, fast and affordable, and ideal to whip out around Halloween thanks to its atmospheric artwork.
